The sound of crickets

2022

After the disappearance of Aldemar, my grandfather, his wife decided to get over all uncertainty by including him in the list of deaths in the 1938 Colombian National Census. With this act my grandmother gave him a grave. Today, 83 years later, I repeat her. I try to find myself among the numbers in the digital database of the National Center for Historical Memory in order to finish the torture that has also implied my own disappearance.

Inhale Deeply

2018

Inhale Deeply is an exercise based on the definition of a sigh, using construction elements seen through the window of an abandoned house as a visual metaphor. To inhale deeply is to hold, then release.

On Voice-over

2017

This essay was created as part of the creative process for the short film "Anzoátegui." While working on the animation, I found it difficult to express my interpretation of the testimonies through words. Consequently, I decided to experiment with different voice-over methods based on references from artists and filmmakers who were key to the project. The essay explores the process of constructing the voice.

The Spider: If You Cannot Speak, You Sing

2017

This short essay is a search for music within the violent context of the town of Anzoátegui. In it, I found Marina, who was consumed by illness two years after our first interview. Singing has existed as long as the voice itself; the accent in words is almost like a melody, but sometimes, one cannot speak—one can only sing.

Letter to A

2010

All letters are love letters” is the premise of the project All the Letters, Filmic Correspondences. Guided by this idea and staying consistent with the format—which I was only then beginning to discover—I created this letter as a declaration and a process of facing certain feelings.
